HIGH PROFILE KIDNAPPING IN 2013




Trending almost every month of the year 2013 was the serious case of KIDNAPPING in our country




FEBRUARY

 In what we can describe as the biggest kidnapping of foreign nationals in Nigeria, the Ansaru Islam terrorist group stormed a building in Bauchi  in the night of February 16, killing the guards and kidnapped seven foreign workers from Britain, Italy, Lebanon and Greece working for a construction company. following a suspected rescue bid, they were then killed on March 9 by their abductors.





MARCH
On March 19, Dr, chudi Nwike, Former Anambra State Deputy  Governor who was also the National Vice Chairman of ACN was abducted and killed 3 weeks after despite the N30 million ransom paid by his family to the kidnappers. His lifeless body was dumped somewhere in Agbor, Delta State in the following month.





APRIL
Mr. Kehinde Bamigbetan, the Chairman of Ejigbo Local Council Development Authority (LCDA) of Lagos State was kidnapped on his way from work at Ejigbo by a four-man armed gang. He was released five days after a payment of N15 million ransom.








MAY
The wife, daughter and driver of the Supreme Court Judge, Justice Bode Rhodes Vivour were kidnapped along the Okada-Benin road in Edo State. They were held captive for 18 days in a buildin along Sakpoba Hill Road in Benin City before they were later released after a huge ransom was paid.


AUGUST
This month witnessed 2 cases of kidnapping.
Mr. Walter  Aiwekhue, the Deputy Chairman of Uhumwunde Local Government Area of Edo State was kidnapped on August 19 but manage to escape after about 4 hours from the bush he was held.

On the 24th, Human Rights Lawyer, Chief Mike Ozekhome was ambushed along the Benin-Auchi Road with his driver by a notorious gang spearheaded by Kelvin Oniarah. 4 policemen were killed while trying to rescue the lawyer. After an undisclosed amount was paid as ransom, he was released.


SEPTEMBER
This month also witnessed more than one case of kidnapping.
The first week of these month, the Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion was in serious disarray as Archbishop Ignatius Kattey, the Dean of the Church was kidnapped along with his wife, Beatrice, who was later released. The Archbishop spent the next five days in captivity.
On September 26, Justice Daniel Okungbowa of Edo State High Court was also abducted in Benin city and released after 16 days.


OCTOBER
On October 15 at Ogbia town in Bayelsa State, Mrs Augusta-Douglas Anyam, elder sister to Presidential Advise on Research Documentation and Strategy, Mr. Oronto-Douglas, was kidnapped from her shop and smuggled out of the town. She was later released after 9 days.






NOVEMBER

A ransom of N700 million was the amount demanded when the Osun State industrialist and Chairnam/CEO Yinka Oba Foams, Dr. (Mrs) Yinka Obaleya was abducted on November 19 in Ijebu-Jesa, Osun State. She was released after 2 weeks in captivity.




DECEMBER
Retired Army Major  Azum Asoya and his wife, Elizabeth, were kidnapped in Okpanam, Oshimili North Local Government Area of Delta state. They were released 17 days after but with each one of them having a finger chopped off when the demanded ransom was not forthcoming.

What will 2014 bring? That's the big question on peoples mind.
